Sheetz is “not coming lightly” to greater Columbus, according to Travis Sheetz, President and COO of the family-owned and operated restaurant and convenience store chain. In partnership with Skilken Gold, its exclusive real estate developer in Central Ohio, Sheetz is planning an aggressive roll-out that includes more than 50 store openings by 2025, with locations that range from rural to city.
The company officially broke ground Monday on two of those locations, one in Obetz and one in Delaware. Four other sites have been confirmed, dozens more are being located by Skilken Gold, and approximately 12 stores a year will follow through 2025.
The expansion will also bring approximately 1,500 jobs to the metro area, with an average of 30 jobs per store.
“In the 98 years that Skilken Gold has been in business, we’ve never seen an expansion as aggressive as this, which is a testament to the strength of Sheetz’s business,” said Isaac Gold, Skilken Gold’s Vice President of Real Estate. “Sheetz is a category leader, and we’re thrilled to be a partner in its growth.”
Founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz achieved more than $7 billion in sales last year. The kicked-up brand has built a large and loyal customer base across the Mid-Atlantic, by virtually reinventing itself as an award-winning destination for food.
Named 2020 Best Regional Fast Food Chain by USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel awards, Sheetz offers its nationally-acclaimed Made-to-Order (MTO®) menu on its unique touch-screen order terminals where customers order any of Sheetz’s customized specialty drinks or food items around the clock.
“We are thrilled to officially break ground and bring the ultimate one-stop-shop to the residents of Columbus,” said Travis Sheetz. “Anchored by the values my Uncle Bob instilled when he founded Sheetz in 1952, we look forward to being a great employer, providing total customer focus, and being a good neighbor that is actively involved in every community we serve.”
Deeply committed to supporting the local communities each store serves, Sheetz plans to make a positive impact on the residents of Columbus and the surrounding areas through its Made-to-Share food donation program, long-standing partnership with Special Olympics, Sheetz for the Kidz™ holiday donation campaign for children in need and much more.
Sheetz currently operates 43 store locations in Ohio and 608 store locations across Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
